FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about how I run aqua aerobics
Carparking
At MNGSC, the carparking is at the rear of the main house you see upon entry. Drive (slowly please! There are awesome kids and dogs that live here) around to the left, past the house to the rear carpark area.
At SBSS, carparking is readily available out the front.
Changeroom
There are private and shared-space changing facilities on site at both pools, including toilets and showers
What do I wear?
Bathers are fine as long as you feel supported in them - the last thing you want when you're exercising is to have a boob fly out! It makes a huge difference to your workout the more comfortable and confident you feel when you're in the water. Personally, I choose to wear swimmer bike shorts with a zip-up activewear crop (I love Active Truth brand, they're on special a lot) under a zip-up rashie (I get my shorts and rashie from Curvyswimwear).
If you don't want to invest but not sure of your bathers will be supportive enough, wearing a sports-bra underneath will do the job really well.

If you want to wear activewear that's a good option too - just be aware that even though it's a saltwater pool, it does still contain chlorine which will degrade fabric over time.

Loose fitting clothing will make your workout more difficult as it will increase the resistance effect of the water so I do recommend flexible, snug fitting swimwear/clothing.

Water shoes are great as you can wear them in and out of the water. I personally like to workout barefoot, and wear crocs after class, because they're lightweight, non slip and easy to put on with wet feet.

Please call me if you're feeling stressed about what to wear or if you're feeling body conscious. I'm here to help make this process gentle on you.
What should I expect?
Classes will start in the water at the advertised time, so best to arrive a few minutes early. Select a location in the water (at MNGSC) that is at armpit depth, this is the most effective depth for your workout. Some exercises will be in deeper or shallower water, I will guide you through this. Some exercises are suspended in water, so please let me know before class if this is a concern for you. All exercises are variable in intensity and I encourage everyone to work to their capacity. Some classes will have equipment used, such as pool noodles, hand held bouyancies, or kickboards.
What kind of pool is it?
Both pools are salt water.

MNGSC is a tiled surface with steep stair entry/exit and SBSS is a liner surface with stairs to enter the water. There are also stairs up to the pool deck - all stairs have handrails.
What do I bring with me?
A water bottle and a towel. Crocs or thongs are easy to put on when you're wet. Remember your cash if you haven't paid online, I have change available.
Sensitive skin
Both centres are saltwater pools, which is far gentler on the skin than full chlorine. To keep the water safe for public use, it does still have to have a base level of chlorination. Personally, I make sure to have a thorough shower with gentle soap afterwards, followed by an oil blend to rebalance my skin. I have psoriasis and chemical sensitivites and this routine serves me well considering I'm in the water for 9-12 hours a week! The oil blend I love is from a business called BOPO Women.
I'm so unfit
Then this is a great place to start moving. I encourage everyone in all my classes to only work at your own pace and what suits your body on the day. The great thing about aqua compared to other group fitness sessions is that the water provides a level of discretion - it's very difficult to get stuck in comparison-paralysis when there's water movement and splashing and no one can really tell what anyone else is doing.
I'm really fit
Great! Good on you for exploring fresh options on supporting your body. Aqua is absolutely not the soft option - there are variations to almost every exercise that can extend the range of intensity and effort. We can even add equipment to give you the workout you need to achieve your goals.
Hydration?
Please remember that this is an exercise class! You will sweat and need to prioritise your hydration. I suggest ensuring you're hydrated before class and bring a drink bottle with you. Because the water has a cooling effect, it's deceptive how much of an impact the exercise is having on our body temp.
Pricing
Casual rates are $23/class, or term bookings paid upfront are $20/class. There is also a 5-class flexi pass. Please go to https://bookamat.co/register/client/macedon-ranges-aqua-aerobics.
I can't swim
That's totally ok! Seriously! When I started participating in aqua aerobics, I not only couldn't swim, I also had a fear of putting my face in water. So I can support you through this, because I've been there. Please let me know your concerns in advance so I can ensure classes are tailored to support you in the best way. I'm also a qualified swim instructor so please believe me when I say that I can support you well in the water, I've experienced water based fear and anxiety extensively.
If you're still uncertain, the pool at Splash Buddies Swim Centre is a consistent 1.2mtrs deep, so no deep end!
